This morning while we were eating breakfast, Charles reminded me of a “past season” in my life, and it spurred me to tears. I became overwhelmed with emotion just thinking about how God allowed me to do the one thing I always wanted to do: be a stay-at-home mom. That season was tough for several reasons, including financial strain and raising 3 kids born within 4 years. But I am incredibly thankful for that period of raising children and homeschooling. I certainly was not the perfect housewife, nor mother, but I tried to do my best. Did I make mistakes? Over and over and over again.
In a world where women are only considered “successful” when they have high-paying jobs, or work their way up a corporate ladder, I’ll respectfully disagree. Motherhood is the most important job any woman can and will ever have. God wired women to be nurturers by nature. He’s equipped us to not only be physically capable, but for the emotional and mental abilities to handle the role. And, and most importantly, He wants us to guide our children spiritually to have a heart for Him. God is in the details, and He’s given us everything we need to be a Mom.

I have a “big” birthday approaching quickly, which also has me thinking about my life and the “seasons” I’ve experienced. I am incredibly grateful to God for all the lessons He has taught me throughout every one of those seasons. My children may be grown now, but I will always be their Mom – and yes, perhaps offering my 2-cents when it’s really not welcome. I’ve reminded my children that my precious Momma was still mothering me from her deathbed. She was my Momma until her last breath, and I loved her dearly for it.
Mom’s aren’t perfect, and we come in all different shapes, sizes, and styles. If you have adult children now, I encourage you to focus on the future and how you can be a good mom in this season, and not look back to what you could have done differently. Let’s keep our eyes on Jesus and how we can be good Moms now and moving forward. If you’re still chasing little ones now – enjoy this season as it only lasts a short time!
I want to wish you all a Happy Mother’s Day! May God give you blessings beyond measure!
